- No training program, or supervisor's for teachers don't know how to teach reading and writing
- Many are not getting regularly paid, they don't have an incentive to come every day.
Guatemala has the lowest literacy rate of any country in Central America. Currently, there is a 69% literacy rate for adults, but only a 15-24% literacy rate for youth. Although education is required for kids for six years, it is rarely enforced, and only 31% of kids graduate from sixth grade. We created this blog to raise awareness about this issue, and pinpoint key problems that we are aiming to solve.
